In Uganda, activists and human rights defenders who dare to speak out against authoritarianism face brutal repression and environmental destruction Many are arrested, intimidated, beaten, or even killed for demanding a just and livable future. Yet, despite this violence, our resolve has not wavered. We continue to imagine and build a world that is inclusive, democratic, and free using creativity, courage, and collective action as our tools for change.
Green Foster Action Uganda stands at the forefront of this struggle. Your support strengthens our ability to protect communities, empower youth, and resist the systems that threaten our planet and our freedoms.
Their goal is to train over 5,000 young people in rural and underserved communities, equipping them with skills in movement building, nonviolent direct action, policy advocacy, and community organizing. These young leaders will carry out climate justice campaigns in their own communities while defending democratic values.
Beyond training, international support strengthens our partnerships with civil society organizations, youth networks, and local leaders. Through joint campaigns, learning exchanges, and regular convenings, we can build collective power for national advocacy, foster solidarity across movements, and ensure communities are better prepared for future climate challenges. These efforts enable relationship-building, strategic alignment, innovation, and long-term resilience.
Another critical area for support is the protection of environmental and human rights defenders. Funds will strengthen our Rapid Response Department, providing urgent legal, psychosocial, and relocation support to activists facing arrests, harassment, intimidation, or threats while engaging in peaceful action.
