Free the Sumud Four

Free the Sumud 4

Nonviolence International calls for the immediate and unconditional release of Wael Naouar, Ghassan El Henchiri, Ghassan El Boughdiri, and Nabil Channoufi, the four Tunisian organizers of the Global Sumud Flotilla.

With support from the Israeli government, they have been held in pre-trial detention for more than six months over fabricated financial allegations by the Tunisian authorities. No trial date has been set. Yet their incarceration has been extended while their freedom, health, and dignity continue to be taken from them.

The four began hunger strikes because their bodies became the last place from which they could resist this injustice. Wael suspended his hunger strike after 38 days because of the grave danger to his health. Recent reports confirm that at least two of the other detainees remain on hunger strike, while Nabil Channoufi's current status is still being confirmed.

Whether they continue or suspend their hunger strikes does not change the urgency. They remain unjustly imprisoned, and the damage to their health continues.

The Tunisian government must act now. Release all four immediately. End the case against them and withdraw these fabricated allegations. Provide them with independent and urgent medical care.

But release alone is no longer enough. The harm is ongoing. The Tunisian government must take responsibility and provide full reparations for their arbitrary detention, the damage to their health, the suffering inflicted upon them and their families, and the violation of their dignity and rights.

And Tunisia must not be cowed by the Israeli bombing of its territory, but support these activists to end apartheid and genocide in Palestine.

Solidarity with Palestine is not a crime, it is a badge of honor.
